Feb. 8, 2010 (McClatchy-Tribune Regional News delivered by Newstex) -- LEBANON -- A local business has developed a new health care technology that will eventually create 300 new jobs.
The only question is whether those jobs will stay in Boone County.
Steve Peabody, chief executive officer of the Lebanon-based business VoCare Inc., has developed the new TeleHealth System, designed to improve home health care for seniors through technology that links them directly to their primary care physician and other caregivers.
The manufacture and distribution of the technology, and the customer call centers, will create approximately 300 new jobs, Peabody said.
But to get the product up and running, the business needs $4 million upfront, said Dax Norton, executive director of the Boone County Economic Development Corporation.
"Boone County is not in the business of handing cash out," Norton said. "But it's a great business plan, and we're working really hard to keep him here."
